History of Gachsaran Petrochemical Company

The government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in November 2001, approved the plan to build the western ethylene pipeline in order to develop and improve the deprived and less developed areas in the west of the country. This pipeline starts from Asaluyeh and passes through the provinces of Fars, Khuzestan, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, Lorestan, Kermanshah, Hamadan and Kurdistan and leads to the northwest of the country. The existence of huge oil reserves in Gachsaran has made it possible to have downstream and oil-related industries to open the economic knot of Gachsaran city and surrounding cities. In the early years of this project, the lack of credit and then the sanctions of the country caused many problems for this economic project, but in recent years, with the special follow-up of representatives of Gachsaran and Bashet in the Islamic Council, along with the efforts of the officials of the Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company Also, Iranian Investment Petrochemical Group Company and also by providing financial facilities from the National Development Fund in the form of letters of credit under the agency of the Export Development Bank, the prosperity has returned to this national project. The purpose of building the Gachsaran Petrochemical Project is to supply feed to Bakhtar Petrochemical Complexes (located on the route of the Western Ethylene Pipeline) as well as Dena Region Petrochemical Complexes, including Mamsani, Dehdasht, Borujen, and Kazeroon Petrochemical Complexes. In this way, the ethylene grade polymer product produced in Gachsaran Petrochemical is transported for approximately 700 km as feed to 4 petrochemicals of this company. This project is located in a land with an area of approximately 157 hectares in the province of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad, Gachsaran city. Gachsaran’s petrochemical water supply is from the Kausar dam of this city with a 28-inch pipe at a rate of 1,760 cubic meters per hour and a length of 27 kilometers. Its feed gas will be supplied from the Beid Boland Refinery in the Persian Gulf at the rate of one million two hundred and sixty thousand tons per year through a 90 km long pipeline. Also, the required fuel gas is also provided by the Khuzestan regional electricity company in the amount of 53900 cubic meters per hour from the national gas line and the electricity of this project in the amount of 50 megawatts. The products of the Gachsaran Petrochemical Project will be one million tons of ethylene per year and 84 thousand tons per year of C3+ (propane and heavier cuts).
