The growing trend of the global economy, the need for energy, the key role of oil and gas in the growth and development of industries, as well as the promotion of human knowledge in the direction of using natural resources, make it unbearable to pay more attention to the dominant role of oil and gas.

According to the forecasts, the need for oil will increase more than twice in the next 20 years, and natural gas will occupy a special place in the energy basket as the chosen fuel of the current century, and more than half will be in the oil – rich countries of the Persian Gulf. They will provide a global request.

Ilam province is currently located in the west of the country with an area of 19 thousand square kilometers and a population equal to 543 thousand people.

According to the studies, about 11% of the country’s independent gas reserves, equivalent to 14 trillion cubic feet, and more than 5.3% of Iran’s dry oil reserves, equivalent to 87.11 billion barrels, are located in Ilam province. In other words, the gas – rich province of Ilam has the largest gas reserves in the country after Asaluyeh.

Nowadays, the processing of petrochemical industries is an important factor in providing raw materials for the economic sectors of countries, because on the one hand, it plays a significant role in job creation by processing industrial products.

On the other hand, the added value resulting from this processing helps the national economy of governments and at the same time helps to revive economic sectors such as agriculture, construction services and general economy.

With the construction of Ilam Gas Refinery in order to refine gas from Tang Bijar and Kaman Kooh gas fields located in Ilam province, the plan of Ilam Petrochemical Complex to use ethane, C3+, C5 products of this refinery, after economic studies in the 947th meeting of the Board of Directors The National Company of Petrochemical Industries was approved on 18/04/1381 and was subsequently approved by the Supreme Economic Council on 10/06/1381.

Therefore, on 15/04/1382, Ilam Petrochemical Company was established and the construction stages of the complex started on a land of 122 hectares in Chavar, 18 kilometers northwest of Ilam city.
