History of Khuzestan Petrochemical
Khuzestan Petrochemical Company “KZPC”, the only producer of engineering polymers, is considered one of the most important petrochemical units in the country, which was established on the twenty-sixth of Esfand, 1376, and in line with fulfilling part of its obligations in the five-year plan. Second, the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran is responsible for the construction and implementation of the “Engineering Polymers” production plan on a ten-hectare land. Engineering polymers are a group of synthetic polymers with special characteristics that distinguish them from other polymers. This group of polymers has high applicability in different fields and their prominent feature is the combination of two features “high strength” and “light weight” which allows these valuable and specialized materials to replace metals in many special applications. Khuzestan Petrochemical Company is the first complex producing two prominent examples of engineering polymers, i.e. “polycarbonate” and “epoxy resin” in the Middle East. The products of this company are used in various industries such as telecommunications, electronics, electricity, construction, aerospace, medical, security, etc.
The executive operations of the construction and installation of Khuzestan Petrochemical Company started in October 1380 and ended in October 1382. Phase one (epoxy resins unit) was opened in July 2003 by Mr. Seyed Mohammad Khatami, the president. Phase two (polycarbonate unit) has reached commercial production in January 2006. The nominal capacity of Khuzestan Petrochemical Company is 35 thousand tons of final product (polycarbonate – 25 thousand tons and epoxy resin – 10 thousand tons) and 30 thousand tons of intermediate product (bisphenol A) per year.
With the implementation of Article 44 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Khuzestan Petrochemical Company was handed over to the private sector with 30% equity shares and 70% holding of Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (PGPIC) from 2013.
The performance of this company is under the high supervision of the Ministry of Petroleum, National Iranian Petrochemical Industries Company and Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries Holding Company
